Is it worth asking for help with transportation and accompaniment for elderly people in their daily activities, and how could this change their lives?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot because my grandmother lives alone in Pittsburgh and has trouble driving now that her vision isn’t as sharp. She used to go grocery shopping, attend her book club, and visit friends regularly, but lately she’s been staying home more than usual. My family is considering arranging some kind of transportation and companionship service so she can keep up with her social life and errands. I’m curious if anyone has seen real benefits when seniors get help with daily transportation and accompanying them on outings. Does it really improve independence or just make things easier for the family?
