Getting a cheap international eSIM?

What are people's experiences with really cheap international eSIMs, especially those that claim to be just one dollar? I'm always on the lookout for ways to save money on data when I travel, particularly for short trips where I just need essential connectivity. It seems like a lot of providers offer trials or small packages, but I'm skeptical if they're actually usable for anything beyond a few minutes.
