Myths & Facts on Nutrition

Diet, nutrition, food intake, proper intake of essential nutrients – all of these inevitably possess a grey area! Almost no one is certain which is the correct diet and what does proper potion of nutrient intake suited for their age and body! Misinformation, rumors, etc., therefore, give rise to myths, and this piece of writing is specifically aimed at discussing the common nutrition myths.

Calories and only calories are responsible for my weight gain

This is absolutely a wrong notion. A bigger portion of calorie burning compared to the amount of calorie intake is certainly important for weight loss but it’s not the ‘only thing’! One needs to be aware that there are a large number of other variables that are responsible for unwanted weight gain. Some of the mentionable ones are hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, metabolic issues with one’s physiology, and even genetics!

Fat containing foods are always unhealthy

You need to remind yourself time and again: a balanced diet is essentially ‘balanced’. Foods containing fats also need to be there in your balanced diet. What is essential is balancing between high fat-containing foods and low-fat-containing ones. If you choose to go for all fatless food, they pose certain health risks like – increased insulin resistance and triglyceride levels, metabolic syndrome, risks of heart disease, etc.!

Breakfast is most important, skipping other meals is wise!

Both skipping breakfast and going for it on the other hand have their own pluses. Postponed breakfasts have been found to improve blood sugar control and result in a few other health virtues too. A heavy breakfast is often used for the purpose of ‘intermittent fasting’. A considerable amount of breakfast in the morning and an early evening meal with a 12 to 14hrs of fasting window can keep you from putting on those extra kilos!
