Scaffold: How To Work With It Safely

Rather than working from a ladder, using hanging scaffold systems is much easier and safer. It’s not just stable, but forms a wide work platform and provides a wide reach. By not having to constantly move a ladder, you will do a better job half the time. But in order to be fully assured that it’s safe and secure to work on it, follow these steps given below.

How to set up scaffold safely

Install the casters or base jacks first so that you don’t have to lift the entire scaffolding order to slide them in. On one frame install both the braces. With the support of the cross braces, it will stay upright. Moving the second frame into position, attach the cross braces to that. Before installing the planks, slide the scaffold about 14 inches from the wall.

How to set scaffold on uneven ground

With either casters or base plates, scaffold frames are designed for use. The frame tubes can get damaged if you skip them. When working on concrete, setting the scaffold on blocks isn’t required, but it’s still a good idea. A slightly cupped base plate or an uneven floor could result in a small mating surface. Level and plumb the scaffold when you are working on an uneven surface.

Maintaining a 3-point grip

Always maintain a 3-point grip when you are climbing suspended scaffold equipment. In other words, one foot and two hands or one hand and two feet should stay in contact with the scaffold at all times. Always keep your body as close to the frame as possible. Never ever climb the cross braces as they are not designed to handle the weight.

Working on the scaffold

To reduce the risk of tripping or kicking stuff onto people working below, keep the planks clear of clutter. Whenever possible, keep your tools and supplies in buckets and toolboxes. Install an appropriate toe board to prevent things from falling. Though it can be tempting to hang tools from the railings but don’t do it.
