How to Fix Leaking Kitchen Faucet Two Handles
To repair a leaky kitchen faucet, you can use a few different techniques. The first thing you need to know is the type of valve you have. There are four different types of valves and the repair method varies depending on which one you have. If you have a cartridge type faucet, you may have to disassemble it first. Fortunately, you can find the parts and instructions you need at any local store.
Remove the stem
After you have disassembled the faucet, you should remove the stem. You can then use a basin wrench to unscrew the stem and replace it. The process is straightforward and doesn't require you to empty your emergency fund to complete the repair. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully to avoid further damage. If you're not sure about what to do next, watch the video below. Follow the steps in reverse order.
Use a wire brush
The nuts holding the faucet in place can become rusted and stuck. If this is the case, try using a wire brush to clean away the corrosion. Another way to fix the leak is to apply a thin coating of penetration oil to the leaky area. It may take up to an hour to dissolve the corrosion. If you don't have the right tools to remove the faucet, you can cut it using a hacksaw or reciprocating saw.
Locate the valves
To fix leaking kitchen faucet two handles, you must first locate the valves located under the sink. If you can locate them, it will stop the leak. Alternatively, you can loosen the nut on one side and tighten the adjustment ring to fix the leak. If you can't find a replacement kit for the fixture, you may need to replace the entire unit. If you can't find one, make sure to follow the steps below to ensure that your faucet is working properly.
Use penetrating oil
If the leaking Nivito two handles is caused by a screw, you can use a flathead screwdriver to remove it. To remove the handle, you need to remove the decorative cap on top of it and unscrew the screw that attaches it to the faucet. Then, lift the handle away from the faucet and remove it. Avoid banging the faucet as it may damage the internal components. However, you can use penetrating oil to break up the rust or sediment that may have formed on the threads.
To repair a leaking kitchen faucet with two handles, you must first locate the shutoff valve. Sometimes, the shutoff valve is stuck or rusted and hard to move by hand. Then, turn off the water supply at the main water valve located in the basement or crawlspace. You can also use pliers to turn off the water supply at the water meter, which is located underneath the small manhole.
Install the decorative cap
Before attempting to repair a leaking kitchen faucet two handles, make sure the cartridge is not faulty. In some cases, a faulty cartridge is caused by poor water flow. In such cases, you should consider changing the cartridge. This way, you'll have a more efficient faucet. A replacement cartridge comes with new parts that will fit the faucet perfectly. Just make sure to install it correctly. Then, you can install the decorative cap and reinstall the handle.
