LCS Players Association votes 'overwhelmingly in favor' of strike
The LCS Players Association has announced an overwhelming vote in favor of a strike in response to the recent announcement by a number of teams that they will no longer operate a second division.
The LCS Players Association stated, "This vote was not taken lightly by the players. There have been many conversations, we want the LCS to be competitive, and we recognize the importance of this issue. We hope that Riot can come to a better solution for the future of the LCS and NACL."
Riot paid teams $3 million to run the LCS and NACL, but only FlyQuest, Team Liquid, and EG have announced that they will continue to run the NACL, while C9, Dignitas, 100 Thieves, Golden Guardians, Immortals, and TSM have already released all of their players and organized. The Summer Season will continue with the three teams that have declared their intentions to stay in the division and seven additional independent teams, but even they have their doubts.
The LCS Players Association has proposed that the LCS and NACL reinstate a relegation playoff system similar to Ballantyne's, provide $300,000 in annual salary support for second division teams, and guarantee the LCS Summer winner a minimum contract for next year.
Meanwhile, even North America's leading gaming organization TSM recently announced its departure from the LCS, and simple LCS viewership has continued to decline, dropping from 370,000 viewers at the 2022 LCS Summer Finals to 270,000 at the 2023 LCS Spring Finals, with cumulative viewing hours dropping by nearly 20 percent. In North America, 토토 it's already been said that Valorant esports has surpassed LoL esports, and VCT Americas has already surpassed 400,000 viewers this season.
