‘2023 Special Olympics Korea K-League Unified Cup’ Completed Successfully

Special Olympics Korea (Chairman Lee Yong-hoon) and the Korea Professional Football League (President Kwon Oh-gap) announced that the '2023 Special Olympics Korea K-League Unified Football Unified Cup' was successfully concluded at the Anyeong Lifestyle Football Center in Daejeon on the 8th.

In this competition, 11 integrated soccer teams from the K-League 1 and 2 clubs and the Korea Professional Football League, comprised of 25 people, including 10 people with developmental disabilities, 10 people without disabilities, and 5 coaches, participated. 카지노사이트

At the opening ceremony held on the morning of the 7th, an opening speech by Special Olympics Korea Chairman Lee Yong-hoon and an encouraging speech by Daejeon/Chungnam Special Olympics Korea Chairman Oh No-gyun boosted the morale of the athletes.

Participating teams in the Unified Cup, now in its third year, have continued to conduct systematic training, including learning various soccer techniques and physical fitness management know-how through the '2023 Special Olympics Korea K-League Integrated Soccer Clinic' last May.

The game was divided into three groups (A, B, and C) through division, and instead of a tournament, it was played as a group stage without the burden of winning or losing.

This game was played with two halves of 20 minutes each, applying local rules in which non-disabled (partner) players could not score consecutively, and developmentally disabled and non-disabled players had to take turns scoring.

As a result of two days of heated matches, Group A was Jeju United FC - Busan I'Park - Gyeongnam FC.

Bucheon FC 1995, Group B was Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - Seongnam FC - Pohang Steelers - Incheon United FC, and Group C was Chungnam Asan FC - Daejeon Hana Citizens.

The final rankings were made in order of the Korea Professional Football League.

At the awards ceremony, in keeping with the Special Olympics spirit of 'Everyone is a winner,' trophies and medals were awarded along with the titles of 'First Winner' (1st place) and 'Fourth Winner' (4th place) rather than the winning team or fourth place.

The Fair Play Trophy, given to the team that showed the cleanest game manners, was awarded by the Korea Professional Football League.

Then, on the afternoon of the 8th, at the K-League match between Daejeon Hana Citizen and Jeju United held at Daejeon World Cup Stadium, players from both teams' integrated soccer teams had a meaningful time entering the ground together with professional players.

In addition, the unified soccer team that participated in this tournament watched the game between Daejeon and Jeju at the stadium.

Lee Yong-hoon, Chairman of Special Olympics Korea, said, “I believe that the sweat shed by all the integrated soccer teams while playing together has brought us one step further toward an integrated society.”

He added, “Regardless of wins and losses, all participants showed an integrated soccer game based on community spirit and fair play.

“I give them a warm round of applause of encouragement,” he said.

The ‘Hana Oullim Soccer Field Festival’ was also held at the Daejeon World Cup auxiliary stadium.

This event was created with the goal of improving awareness of social prejudice and discrimination against the disabled by indirectly experiencing and enjoying the difficulties of the disabled through soccer.

At the event venue, a variety of programs were held, including a booth introducing Special Olympics Korea, a photo exhibition, a magic show and pottery experience with a developmentally disabled artist, a soccer booth to indirectly experience disability, a flea market, and a challenge.

The final destination of the 2023 K-League integrated soccer journey is the All-Star Game to be held in December.

This year, along with professional players who have played in the K-League, players from the Unified Football Team are expected to show off their brilliant individual skills and showmanship.

The All-Star Game will be held on Saturday, December 9th at Hwajeong Gymnasium on Korea University's Seoul Campus.
