Ancelotti and Xavi ‘Explode With Anger’

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez expressed anger during talks with the La Liga refereeing committee.

Global sports media The Athletic said on the 16th, "Ancelotti's verbal abuse, Xavi's dissatisfaction, and the meeting between La Liga coaches and referees were the most dramatic moments even in Spanish soccer standards," adding, "On the 15th, top two league coaches and Spanish referees, including 20 La Liga team coaches, had an unprecedented meeting at the Spanish Royal Football Federation located in Las Rosas outside Madrid."

While coaches and referees gathered in one place and held talks during the season, coaches from Real and Barcelona, two teams representing Spanish soccer, exploded their complaints toward the referee.

The talks are due to the recent poor refereeing decisions in the Spanish league. According to the media, in the match between Celta Vigo and Sevilla, Celta striker Iago Aspas knocked over the VAR monitor after being denied a penalty kick, and in the match between Mallorca and Real Betis, Mallorca defender Omar Mascarel's accumulated warning decision was controversial. In the match between Valencia and Granada, Valencia defender Gabriel Paulista only gave a warning, not a direct exit, despite a dangerous tackle, which led to controversy.

As the debate continued, there was a place for coaches and referees to talk candidly using the A match break. Initially, the purpose of the talks was designed to strengthen ties and calm anger so far by coaches and referees sharing their opinions and discussing issues. But the atmosphere was not good. This is because Ancelotti and Xavi poured out their anger and left.

The Athletic said: "The atmosphere at the talks was not good. Coach Ancelotti was seen leaving the talks. When reporters at the scene asked how the talks went, Ancelotti's answer was firm. Ancelotti said, "How was it? No, it was a complete mess. Referees don't understand the manager at all. "Why don't the judges respect the coach?" he was reportedly furious.

Ancelotti was not the only one who left his post after venting his anger. Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone also reportedly left during the talks. Xavi was also one of the most belligerent coaches to the referees, although he was there until the second round of talks. Xavi urged La Liga teams to reach an agreement that could protect them.

Coach Mitchell Girona, who attended the meeting, said, "There were three main proposals. One of them was the VAR problem. It needs to be supplemented. VAR is used differently depending on which referee is in charge of the game," he said, explaining that there have been talks about referee decisions and VAR issues that have continued to emerge recently.

The Athletic said, "It remains to be seen whether the talks will help calm tensions between coaches and referees in the long run," adding that the two sides are not so good that Ancelotti and Xavi were angry.
