Figure Skating Valieva Doping Hearing

Figure Skating Valieva Doping Hearing to Continue in November

CAS court: “Additional documents are needed…give time to prepare”

The disciplinary hearing for Russian figure skating star Kamila Valieva (17), who caused a doping scandal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, has been postponed to November this year.

Reuters and the Associated Press reported on the 29th (Korean time) that “the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided to hold additional hearings on the Olympic doping case involving Valieva over two days in November.” 카지노

The closed hearing on Valieva, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from the 27th local time, was suspended after three days of hearing, and is scheduled to resume on November 9-10.

According to Reuters and the Associated Press, CAS said in a statement, “As the court requested additional documents, we granted Valieva an additional hearing date to prepare them.”

Due to the delay in the closed-door hearing, the results, including whether Valieva will be disciplined and the level of punishment, are expected to come out over the next year.

Valieva won the figure skating team event at the Beijing Winter Olympics held in February last year with her Russian Olympic Committee teammates, but caused a stir when banned substances were detected in her urine sample just before the awards ceremony.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) postponed the awards ceremony indefinitely, Valieva failed to win her medal, finishing only fourth in the women’s singles amidst her stinging gaze.

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Disciplinary Committee conducted an internal investigation after the competition closed and ruled that Valieva violated anti-doping rules but was not negligent, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Skating Union (ISU) made the decision appealed to CAS, saying it was unacceptable.

WADA’s position is that Valieva’s athlete status should be revoked for four years and her performance in all competitions after the sample collection date (December 15, 2021) should be disqualified.

If WADA’s demands are met, Valieva will be disqualified from winning the team event at the Beijing Olympics and will be barred from competing in all competitions for the next four years, including the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.

On the other hand, Russia insists that the results of the figure skating team competition should be processed as normal, awarding medals to her athletes, and ensuring Valieva’s right to participate in the competition.

The Beijing Olympics team event award ceremony has not been held yet, one year and six months after the Olympics ended.

If CAS sides with WADA, the Russian Olympic Committee will be stripped of its gold medal, the United States, which ranked second, will win the championship, while Japan, which ranked third, will win a silver medal, and Canada, which ranked fourth, will win a bronze medal.

Russian ice skaters, including Kamila Valieva, are unable to compete in international competitions due to ISU sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.
