SK wins over Philippine team by one point in EASL

Seoul's SK Knights won the East Asian Super League (EASL) group stage in the Philippines' Woona by one point.

On the 27th, SK beat Philippine Meralko Boltz 81-80 in Group B of the 2023-2024 EASL at the Phil Sports Arena in Pasig, Philippines.

SK, EASL's defending champion for the strongest professional team in East Asian basketball, recorded two wins and two losses in four group games.

In Group B, Taiwan's New Taipei leads the group with two wins, while Japan's Ryukyu Golden Kings and SK Wyverns are both recording two wins and two losses. Meralko is at the bottom with one win and three losses.

EASL is divided into two groups of four teams, and after playing a quick lag, it will reach the semi-finals to the second place in each group and compete for the championship through a single-round match.

In this game, SK's main gun Jamil Warney played an active role. Warney led his team to victory in this game with 31 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Ahn Young-joon added 19 points, including five three-point shots.

SK, which had a close game with Meralko, widened the gap in the middle of the second quarter with Warnie hitting a shot under the basket and a three-point shot, and finished the first half 45-33.

Taking the lead, SK upped the mood again midway through the third quarter when Choi Won-hyuk and Ahn Young-joon scored three points, continuing to lead by more than 10 points. However, SK allowed pursuit after being hit twice by Meralko's Jack Lofton 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter.

The team had a close game in the fourth quarter. SK had a good start thanks to Ahn Young-joon's three-point play and shot under the basket. However, in the closing minutes of the quarter, SK was heavily chased by Meralko. After giving up a shot under the basket and three-point play to Lofton, SK gave up three free throws due to Kim Sun-hyung's foul, leading the team 81-78 with two minutes left before the game ended.

SK then gave Lofton a run once again, facing the first crisis.

Fortunately, Meralko's attack was prevented at the last minute, and SK took a breath by winning.
