The final chapter of the national team Kim Yeon-koung, she did not forget the fighting spirit of her colleagues
You retired without a retirement ceremony.
Heungkuk Life Insurance's Kim Yeon-koung will hold a meaningful event in June. She will host the KYK Invitational 2024 at Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul on June 8 and 9. The KYK Invitational 2024 will feature the first ever World Women's Volleyball All-Star Game, which will be held in Korea, along with the final national team event match of Kim and several other players, which has been postponed due to COVID-19.
It will start with Media Day and the eve of June 7. On the first day of the official schedule, the event will be held on June 8, with a "National Volleyball Team Event Match" and a "National Volleyball Team Retirement Ceremony" hosted by the Korea Volleyball Association. According to an official of the association, the "National Team Event Match" is expected to be a match between the semi-finalists of the 2012 London Olympics and the quarter-finalists of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
On the 9th, the last day will be decorated with the "World Women's Volleyball All-Star Game" hosted by Ryan At Co., Ltd.
Domestic players who led the golden age of the Korean women's national volleyball team will be joined, and world-class former and current women's volleyball players, who boasted of their cross-border friendship with Kim Yeon-koung, will visit Korea in response to Kim Yeon-koung's invitation.
She has been a world-recognized volleyball player beyond Korea. She has played in Korea, Japan, Turkiye, and China, showing her best performance. Last season, she also showed an outstanding performance with an attack success rate of 44.98 percent and receiving efficiency of 42.46 percent in 36 regular season games. She ranked second in attack success rate, fifth in reception efficiency, sixth in score-serve, seventh in digs, and eighth in defense, making her the list of most offense and defense players. Not a single set was rested. As a result, she won her sixth MVP award in three consecutive seasons in 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-23 unanimous agreement.
Kim Yeon-koung, a member of the national team, shined even more.
Kim has been wearing the national team uniform for 16 years since the 2004 Asian Youth Championships. She has participated in numerous international competitions, including three Olympics 2012 London, 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, four Asian Games 2006 Doha, 2010 Guangzhou, 2014 Incheon, 2018 Jakarta-Palembang, and three World Championships.
At the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, Korea won the gold medal for the first time in 20 years, and at the 2012 London Olympics, Korea was named the top scorer and MVP. It was the first time for a team ranking fourth to receive the grand prize. At the Tokyo Olympics, the team was the last competition where he played in a national team uniform, he ranked second in score 136 points, second in attack success rate 44.85 percent, and second in digs. He led Korea to the semifinals by displaying strong spirit.
Fernando Morales, who has to lead the Korean women's volleyball team, acknowledged Kim's presence in an interview with Ballistic World recently, saying, "I want to meet Kim Yeon-koung in Korea," adding, "If we have a player like Kim Yeon-koung on the national team, we will have confidence and our level will increase."
Regarding the reason for hosting the KYK Invitational 2024, Kim Yeon-koung explained, "There are players who have said retirement and those who have not said retirement. Since the retirement ceremony is a retirement ceremony, I also want to finish with the seniors who worked hard for Korean volleyball."
"I have prepared for this for a long time. Many people have helped me. There is not much time to prepare step by step. The World Women's Volleyball All-Star Game is an important Olympic year for players. They are also the main players in the national team, so I don't think it will be easy to reach them all. I have made up the players I played with and those I played in Korea."
She has decided to play in the next season as well. Last year, she was also busy off-season, working as a KBS volleyball commentator for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games along with a national team advisor.
"There was a dissuasion around me, and the reason for my postponement of retirement was the support of my fans. I think there are still many people who want to see my volleyball," he said. "I have no plans related to the national team this year. I will cheer for them from behind."
Meanwhile, the event will be available through NFTs and general tickets. NFT ticket buyers will be given the opportunity to purchase tickets first and purchase limited-edition digital and physical goods.
Existing KYK Foundation digital membership members will be able to pre-purchase NFT tickets on April 8 and 9 through the FNCY Digital Goods platform. Starting April 10, regular fans will also be able to purchase NFT tickets, and regular tickets will open on May 20. More information will be available on the official website and Instagram account.
With the motto "Not end, but and," the KYK Invitational 2024 will be the last chance to see players representing South Korea's women's volleyball wearing uniforms and will be filled with stories of Kim Yeon-koung's first new volleyball. 토토
