Ko Jin-young's return to the world's fifth place, Yoo Hae-ran and Lim Jin-hee also rose
The world ranking of Korean players who did well in the JM Eagle LA Championship on the LPGA Tour has risen.
Ko Jin-young ranked fifth in the women's golf world ranking announced on the 30th (Korea time), up two notches from last week.
It is the first time in five months that Ko Jin-young has ranked within the top five in the world since November last year. Ko Jin-young, who dropped to sixth place in the world by withdrawing from the CME Group Tour Championship last November, dropped to seventh place after failing to make the cut at the Chevron Championship, a major LPGA Tour tournament that ended on the 22nd. However, she recovered her ranking by tying for fourth at the LA Championship that ended on the 29th.
Yoo Hae-ran, who was ranked third alone in the competition, rose four notches to 27th. Yoo has performed well in this competition following the fifth place in the Chevron Championship, sharply raising her world ranking. She has elevated her ranking by seven notches, which had fallen to 34th at the end of March.
Im Jin-hee, who is tying for fourth in the LA Championship with Ko Jin-young and leading the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year points (220 points) this season, ranked 36th, up six notches from last week. Im Jin-hee, who had been on the KLPGA stage until last year, has challenged the LPGA Tour in earnest since this year, and has continued to do well in the fourth place in a row following the eighth place in the Chevron Championship.
Kim Hyo-joo fell to 12th place (-2), Yang Hee-young to 17th (-2), and Shin Ji-ae to 20th (-1). The yellow light has been turned on for the Paris Olympics in July. Two golfers per country can participate in the women's golf event at the Olympics, and a maximum of four golfers can participate in a single country if they are ranked within the top 15 in the world. After golf returned to the official sport at the 2016 Rio Olympics, all four Koreans participated in the event until the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. However, the drop in the rankings has reduced the number of golfers within the top 15 to two, putting them on the verge of losing their berths.
Meanwhile, Lee Jung-min, who won the KLPGA Championship, a major tournament on the Korean Women's Professional Golf Tour that ended on the 28th, moved up 96 spots to 117th.
Nelly Korda of the U.S. has maintained her No. 1 ranking after taking a week off. Lilia Bu (U.S.), Celine Boutier (France), and In Luoning (China) remain unchanged in ranking from second to fourth.
