Contomercos Resigns, Pinault Mohegan CEO Resigns

U.S.-based tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment announced Wednesday that Mario Konstantkos, pictured, will step down as the company's president and chief executive officer later this month. Ray Pineault Group's chief operating officer (COO) will serve as interim CEO from that date, the company said in a news release.

Mr Contomercos was appointed CEO of mohagan gaming from October 16, 2017. He previously served as the company's chief financial officer from September 2011.

"Mario was instrumental in the growth and success of the organization," said James Gesner, president of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Commission, in a prepared statement. The commission controls the Mohegan game.

"We appreciate Mario's many years of service to Tribes and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, and we are successfully navigating the ongoing global pandemic as well as the large refinancing that was underway earlier this year," he added.

Mohegan Gaming is developing the Inspire Entertainment Resort, a complex with foreigner-only casinos near Incheon International Airport, a major aviation hub in Korea. The company has asked Korean authorities to postpone the complex's opening until 2023.

The group also worked with the Japanese unit of Hong Kong-listed Osidori International Holdings Ltd. to create a casino resort in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan.

In a release Wednesday, Mr Gessner said Mohegan Gaming's COO Mr Pineault would take over as interim CEO while seeking a new one.

Mr Pineault explained in his announcement that he had gained "more than 20 years of experience" while taking the COO position at Mohegan Gaming in July 2020. He also served as the company's regional president, and as president and general manager of Mohegan Sun, the brand's flagship property in Connecticut, USA.

Mohegan Gaming further announced Wednesday that it has appointed Carol Anderson as the company's chief financial officer. Mr. Anderson was the latest to serve as senior vice president of finance and capital markets at casino equipment maker and gaming provider Scientific Games.
