Korea's Paradise City Casino closes indefinitely

The foreigner-only casino (photo) at Paradise City Game Stadium near Incheon International Airport posted a Korean notice on the stadium's website on the 28th that it will close "indefinitely" for the safety of customers.

The resort had previously said its casinos would be closed by 6 a.m. on Monday (7 September), an extension of the initial closure, which ran from 1 to 3 September due to reports of COVID-19 cases involving resort employees.

According to the latest announcement, the resort's non-gaming facilities will be closed from 1 p.m. on Friday to 1 p.m. on Wednesday (September 9).

According to South Korean media, the main reason for the indefinite closure of casinos was that a total of six resort employees, including two casino employees, had been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Friday morning.

Media said two Chinese nationals, chefs from an on-site Chinese restaurant called Imperial Treasure, were also among the sick.

The venue said in a press release on Friday that the closures were for the "safety of guests and employees" and were in compliance with the 2.5 levels of social distancing for South Korea's metropolitan area. The rules restrict the operation of restaurants and other restaurants, and mandate the closure of indoor sports facilities as well as so-called "cram school" education facilities.

As of 12 a.m. on Friday, South Korea recorded 198 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the national tally of infections to 20,842.

Paradise City opened in 2017 with a hotel as well as a foreigner-only casino. Since then, the complex has gradually added non-gaming facilities.

It is a venture between Korea's Paradise, which runs a foreigner-only casino, and Japan's entertainment giant Sega Sammy Holdings.
