Grand Hoth Tram Opens Intercontinental Hotel Brand

Hotel and resort operator InterContinental Hotels Group Plc will showcase two hotel brands at Grand Hotram Strip (pictured), a resort complex with casinos on the southeastern Vietnamese coast of Ho Chi Minh City, developed by Ho Tram Project Company Ltd.

The Grand Ho Tram Hotel will be rebranded as the InterContinental Grand Ho Tram "within a year of refurbishment," according to a press release released by InterContinental Hotels Group on Thursday.

The 533-key Intercontinental Grand Tram will include a convention center that can accommodate up to 1,300 people, including a spacious ballroom and five conference rooms. There will still be casinos.

Another brand that the Intercontinental Hotel Group will be introducing to the casino resort complex is the Holiday Inn. According to an announcement Thursday, the 502-key hotel, Holiday Inn Resort Ho Tram Beach, will open in 2020. The building is intended for families and offers "direct access" to a variety of family-friendly facilities, including movie theaters, bowling alleys, food courts, and water parks.

The InterContinental Hotels Group's statement referred to plans to increase the resort's capacity to accommodate "larger events for up to 3,000 people."

The signing of the agreement with Hortram Project Company marks a "new milestone" for InterContinental Hotel Group's growth in Vietnam, said Serena Lim, vice president of Southeast Asia and South Korea development, in prepared remarks included in the statement on Thursday.

The announcement also included comments from Michael Kelly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Tram Project Company. "InterContinental Hotels Group has an impressive track record in Vietnam and, along with InterContinental and Holiday Inn, has a strong brand fit for our properties."

The Grand Ho Tram Strip is being developed in several stages. The first phase of the project, which includes a hotel and a casino, began in July 2013.

The company controlled by U.S.-based private equity firm Warburg Pincus LLC is now the majority shareholder in Asia Coastal Development Limited (ADL), the founder of Grand Ho Tram Streep and parent company of Ho Tram Project Company, GGRAsia reported in July. Vina Capital Group Ltd, a Vietnamese investment firm, has a minority stake in ACDL's new controlling company.
