Ahn Se-young reacts to the association's 10p refutation
"Shuttlecock Empress" Ahn Se-young (22, Samsung Life Insurance), who is in a confrontation with the Korean Badminton Association, will soon make an official statement.
She thanked sports fans on social media on Sunday and hinted at her future moves. "I am deeply sorry for having surprised so many people with my story," she wrote. "I am deeply sorry for the athletes who are performing in the Olympic Games after putting in a lot of effort. Due to my remarks, the moments when you have to celebrate and enjoy the honor are covered up like a tsunami. I sincerely apologize to the athletes," she said to the Korean team.
Ahn Se-young then said, "I apologize to the reporters who walked to the airport yesterday and to many people waiting for my position." Ahn Se-young went on an interview after arriving at Incheon International Airport on the 7th (Korea time), but she said, "I don't want to fight (with the association). I appealed to the association to concentrate on the exercise. I will discuss with the association and its team and convey my position." When an official from her team appeared, she did not receive any more questions and hurriedly took a bus that was waiting outside the arrival hall. Suspicions arose that she could not participate in the medal press conference due to external pressure. She did not answer related questions.
An hour after Ahn left the airport, the association refuted and explained what the association had been criticized for in relation to Ahn's remarks in a 10-page press release. At this point, smooth resolution of conflict does not seem easy.
Ahn now has to express his position. "My thoughts and position will be announced after the Olympic Games are over and all athletes are congratulated," he said in the last sentence of the SNS on the day (August 8). More details and plans are expected to be made in the future.
Ahn Se-young won the gold medal, which she had longed for, beating He Bing Zhao (China) 2-0 in the women's singles final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, since then, the association and national team coaching staff have straightforwardly resolved the conflicts that have been accumulated through the operation policy and system, and have announced their separation from the national team, causing a big stir. The association actively explained Ahn's remarks and derived suspicions in a press release on the 7th.
