King' James's Olympic triple-double record, 女 basketball's first protagonist is 'Genius Guard' Jeon Ju-won

LeBron 'King' James has written a new history of Olympic basketball triple-double.

The U.S. won 95-91 against Serbia in the men's basketball semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Versi Arena in Paris, France, on the 9th (Korea time).

This gave the U.S. an opportunity to continue its gold medal streak, which started from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, all the way to Paris. They are aiming at their fifth consecutive gold medal.

Stephen Curry contributed the most to the victory. He participated in the game at 33:06 with 36 points, eight rebounds, and two assists and one steal, including nine three-point shots. He lacked one point and one three-point shot, respectively, in the single Olympic Games, but his performance was truly remarkable.

James' performance, however, was also impressive. He played 32 minutes and 19 seconds, recorded 16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and one steal to achieve a triple-double.

James already had 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists in the match against Australia at the 2012 London Olympics, and achieved triple-double. It was the second time in men's basketball history at the Olympics. He also garnered another triple-double record at the Olympics, which he returned to after 12 years.

There are only four triple-doubles in Olympic men's basketball history.

The first player in his career was Alexander Velov of the former Soviet Union. Velov scored 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in the match against Canada at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, becoming the first player to achieve a triple-double in Olympic basketball (Velov successfully played a winning shot to block the U.S. from seeking an eighth consecutive victory in the 1972 Munich Olympics final).

James in London, mentioned earlier, was the second in history, and Luca Doncic, who participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, scored 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 18 assists against France, achieving his third triple-double.

Doncic had 12 points and 14 rebounds and nine assists in the match against Spain and 20 points and eight rebounds and 11 assists in the match against Germany, but unfortunately missed the triple-double by a slight margin. However, he became the triple-double record holder after two games and three games.

James was the last one to finish. He rewrote Olympic basketball history by winning the triple-double in the last match against Serbia. He only made two triple-doubles.

"American superstar James recorded the second triple-double in Olympic history in the semifinals against Serbia. He became the 'new king' of the Olympic triple-double," FIBA said.

Meanwhile, the first triple-double in the history of women's basketball at the Olympics was Korea's "genius guard" Jeon Ju-won, current coach of Woori Bank. In the final group match against Cuba, he scored 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, leading the team to a 69-56 victory.

Unlike men's basketball, Olympic women's basketball started in 1976 and has a relatively short history. Even so, it is great that the Korean legend is recorded as the first hero of the triple-double.
