KIA's Nail, Lee Dong player in the recovery room is only thinking of recovery
KIA ace pitcher James Nail (31), who suffered a broken jaw, completed the surgery safely.
"I heard he just finished his surgery well. He has moved to the recovery room," Kia Tigers' general manager Shim Jae-hak said in a telephone interview with Sports Seoul on Saturday.
Nails started in an away game against NC held at Changwon NC Park on Monday but were substituted after being hit in the face by NC's Matt Davidson. Fortunately, the nail underwent surgery at Asan Medical Center in Seoul on Tuesday morning and was moved to the recovery room.
It is still unclear how many months it will take to recover. Shim said, "I haven't met the professor who conducted the surgery. It is said that the surgery was done well. I don't know how long it will take to recover yet, but the team will help the nail focus only on recovery."
"I'm only thinking about getting better as an athlete." Shim said, "I'm saddened by the injury, but we're only thinking about getting better. I don't have any other thoughts."
Although the surgery ended well, Nail, the league's top pitcher who tied for first in multiple wins (12 wins) and second in ERA (2.53), will no longer be seen in the regular season this season.
"I will not be able to return until the regular season," a Kia official said. "We have to wait and see the recovery trend," he said, but the team believes that it is impossible for Nail to return to the regular season.
