Mohegan Sun's Tesla Sales & Delivery Center will be located within the casino complex, providing customers with a unique experience of test-driving vehicles around the resort. The decision will continue for Tesla in northern New York until 2025. It is the second foray into tribal territory as it was previously reported that it plans to open another showroom on the land of the Indian nation.

The move to tribal lands comes as Tesla faces strong opposition from traditional car dealerships and state lawmakers that have blocked the company's attempts to obtain dealership licenses in several states and build direct sales with consumers.

Hayden Reynolds, president of the Connecticut Automotive Retail Federation, emphasized the importance of maintaining an equal playing field for all car dealerships in the state. Reynolds said that while respecting the sovereignty of the Mohegan tribe, the federation still opposes Tesla's direct-to-consumer sales model, arguing that Connecticut's dealer franchise law benefits consumers and promotes healthy competition.

Tesla's victory in Delaware paved the way for direct sales
Tesla has made various legal battles and advocacy efforts to change states and regulations to make direct sales possible. Earlier this year, the company won big when the Delaware Supreme Court overturned a ruling that barred Tesla from selling cars directly to customers in the state.

Tesla's move to open showrooms on tribal lands was seen as a strategic way to operate around restrictive state laws. The company previously partnered with the Nambepueblo Tribe in New Mexico in 2021 to establish its first showrooms and repair shop on Native American lands.

Strengthen Mohegan's PR and advertising teams
Mohegan recently stepped up its promotional and advertising activities with a revamp of its PR and advertising teams. In March, Mohegan appointed Cody Chapman as its PR director and Charis Huff as its PR manager to strengthen its corporate PR team.

Two longtime Mohegan members focus primarily on overseeing Mohegan's real estate in the Northeast and external communications strategies and media relationships. In April, Mohegan Sun also appointed David Fausel as its advertising director.
