Dessert that ended in Las Vegas
The 50-year-old Desert Inn is a historic Las Vegas resort once owned by billionaire recluse Howard Hughes that was permanently closed on Aug. 28, 2000, with new owners planning to demolish floors to create a large complex.
Casino mogul Steve Wynn bought Desert Inn for $270 million in June, shortly after MGM Grand stepped down as CEO of Mirage Resorts Inc., which it acquired in May to set up MGM Mirage.
The Desert Inn is one of the oldest accommodations on the streets of Las Vegas. It was one of the fifth properties and largest resorts on the streets of Las Vegas when it was completed by Wilbur Clark in 1950 at a cost of $3.5 million. The legendary resort had 300 hotel rooms, a casino, a spa, and two restaurants.
Caroline Coyne said, "The resort casino closed at 2 a.m. on Aug. 25, and after 12 hours the door was closed to the public forever." She said on behalf of the staff and some of the guests who came to pay their final respects, "It's a time of nostalgia and depression because it's hard to say goodbye under any circumstances."
Wynn plans to demolish the current complex within seven months and build a new 59-story resort on the site. He said the new complex will not be called Desert Inn, but he has not announced a new name. 파워볼사이트
