9 Chiall Lotte Sets 43-Year Record for 150-kilometer Pitcher

Lotte won the game against the KT Wiz of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan on Sunday last week. The team was poised to lose 1-4 until the sixth inning, but succeeded in turning the tables by making a six-run big inning, including a full lineup of hitters in the seventh inning.

It was a huge competition among pitchers at the beginning of the game. Lotte Giants catcher Aaron Wilkerson and KT Wess Benjamin showed perfect pitching through the top of the fourth inning, overwhelming the rival team's batters. The first to break the balance was Lotte. With no runners on base with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Son Ho-young had his first hit in right field with a triple to right field. However, as the follow-up hitter Victor Reyes remained silent, this did not lead to the first run.

When Lotte lost the chance, KT immediately scored a point. In the top of the fifth inning, KT scored four runs in an instant after Kang Baek-ho had his first hit against Wilkerson with two outs and Kim Sang-soo, Bae Jung-dae, Shim Woo-joon, Mel Rojas Jr. and Kim Min-hyuk had a hit. Center fielder Yun Dong-hee's catch error returned to a huge snow ball, leaving a regret.

Trailing 0-4, Lotte made up for one run thanks to hits by Jung Hoon and Park Seung-wook in the bottom of the fifth inning, waiting for the second half of the game. And in the bottom of the seventh inning, Lotte added one more run thanks to consecutive hits by leadoff hitters Reyes and Jeon Jun-woo, opening the big inning. Benjamin, who threw well until the sixth inning, made a ball count of 2-2 at Jeong Hoon's at-bat with no outs and runners on second base, before leaving the mound. With 108 pitches already, it was difficult to throw anymore.

KT has taken out Kim Min- card from the crisis. Kim Min-soo is a key player leading the KT bullpen this season along with Kim Min-soo, Woo Kyu-min and Park Young-hyun. He has displayed consistent performance with eight wins, three losses and 19 holds with an ERA of 4.09, and added four wins and nine holds in the second half alone, drawing attention as he approached the first 10 wins and 20 holds in the KBO league history. He had displayed a clear upward curve by recording two consecutive holds even before the game on the day.

However, Lotte of the "9 Chiall" made a perfect attack on even the bullpen pitcher who is challenging the milestone. Jung Hoon, Na Seung-yeop, Park Seung-wook, and Junghoon Lee made a 5-4 turnaround with consecutive hits, completely destroying Kim. Kim tried to block Lotte's batters by banking on his determination of up to 150 km/h, but he made a blon save as both his slider and determination were hurt. Eventually, he failed to add an out count and had to pass the mound to Kim Min-soo. 메이저놀이터

Lotte continued its offensive afterwards. While Yoon Dong-hee was on base at the first and third bases with no outs and runners on third bases due to a catch error, the third baseman came home, and Ko Seung-min and Reyes' consecutive fly balls also homered to complete a six-run big inning. The Lotte Giants, which had the advantage 7-4, effectively blocked KT's batters by allowing only one run in the ninth inning, marking a come-from-behind victory.

Thanks to its victory against KT, Lotte ranked seventh in the league with 16 wins and nine losses since August, continuing its upward trajectory to rank second in the league. The gap with fifth-ranked KT is already within the range with two games, and fourth-ranked Doosan Bears also has 2.5 games to play. Lotte (123 games), which has the largest remaining schedule, has eight more games to play compared to Doosan (131 games), creating a situation in which it can beat fourth-ranked Doosan on its own. It remains to be seen whether Lotte, which has set a new milestone in 43 years, will be able to continue its upward trajectory for the rest of the season.
