Kangwon Land Casino Pause Extends to Apr. 20

Kangwon Land, the only casino resort in Korea where domestic gambling is allowed, has decided to extend the temporary closure of its gaming venues for a sixth time. Kangwon Land currently says it will reopen at 6 a.m. on Apr. 20, a date that means the resort has been suspended for nearly two months for its gaming business.

The initial casino closure notice was described by Kangwon Land, the resort's promoter, as a precautionary measure related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a serious national impact.

Kangwon Land originally announced the temporary closure of the casino from noon on Feb. 23 to 6 a.m. on Feb. 26, but extended it five times in a row until Monday (April 6).

The company said in Friday's filing that it expects casino loss revenue to reach 209.6 billion won ($171.9 million) from the start of the casino closure on Feb. 23, when it forewarned a sixth extension of its closure. The estimate was based on Kangwon Land's annual daily casino revenue for 2019, the initiative's promoter added.

The company previously declared the closure of its non-game operations from March 2 to March 22. Kangwon Land Inc. said in a Friday filing that its non-game facilities will gradually open in line with the evolution of the country's COVID-19 disease.

At least two foreign-only casino operators - Grand Korea Leisure Inc. and Paradise Inc. - also announced a temporary suspension of gaming operations until Monday (April 6) following South Korea's efforts to curb the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. 파워볼사이트
