"From Here to Retirement" Embiid Extends $192.9M Contract With Philadelphia
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (30) extends his contract with the team.
The 76ers announced on Tuesday that they have agreed to extend their multi-year contract with Embiid.
Embiid also posted a photo on his Instagram page of him signing the contract, writing, "Philadelphia is my home. I want to spend the rest of my career here. I love this community and I love everything that's given to me and my family. There's a lot of work left to do here. You deserve to experience winning and I feel like you're just getting started."
The amount was not disclosed. The Athletic, citing sources, said the same day that Embiid agreed to extend a three-year contract with the 76ers worth a total of $192.9 million.
The contract covers the 2028-29 season, with the final season as a player option. A contract worth $300 million was guaranteed for a total of five years, including the rest of the contract.
Existing contracts of $51.5 million will apply for the 2024-25 season and $55.2 million for the 2025-26 season, with an annual increase of 10% for two years starting with $59.54 million for the 2026-27 season.
The Athletic introduced it as the third-largest contract after Jason Tatum (Boston, $514 million) and Jaylon Brown (Boston, $540 million).
If Embiid executes the player option, he will play for Philadelphia until the age of 35.
Philadelphia appears to have laid the groundwork earlier, signing Paul George and signing Embiid to a multi-year deal.
Embiid, the third overall pick in the 2014 draft by Philadelphia, has played for a team so far.
He has not played in the first two seasons due to a right foot injury, but has averaged 27.9 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 433 games since his debut in 2016.
He was a seven - NBA All - Player, five - defensive team, and was the top scorer in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. He won MVP in the 2022-23 seasons. 메이저놀이터
