Macau Minister of Transport and Public Works.

Raimundo do Rosario said earlier this week that he feared the light rail section of Taifa would not be in service, but Rosario said he believed the construction work of the light rail section would be completed within that time frame.

Speaking to the city council, Rosario said the Taipa section had been disrupted before by railway warehouses, and is now working to meet them. As far as operations were concerned at the time, a minister said the Macau government was worried, noting that it lacked experience in operating such a public transportation system. The LRT system is expected to be operated by public enterprises in the future.

Taipa's light rail section houses a stop that runs the kotai casino resort, measuring 9.3 km long and 5.8 miles long. The stop includes 11 stations and connects to Macau International Airport as well as the Pac-on Ferry Terminal near the airport.

A year ago, Rosario noted that the system section is likely to be operational and discussed delays to the section due to disruptions when building a railway warehouse in Taifa. The company originally hired for warehouse work was dismissed after the contract ended.

Rosario told lawmakers that the government is focusing on completing the construction of the light rail section and will extend it to Barra district on the Macau Peninsula.

The railway connection between the Macau Peninsula is not scheduled when construction will begin. The government plans to revise the route of this section by the end of the year.
