Experiences with fully offline identity document verification — does local processing really hold up under poor lighting or motion blur?
I've messed around with a few on-device setups myself over the past year or so, and honestly it's improved a ton but still not magic. In decent light it's smooth and quick, but throw in low indoor lighting or any shake and you start seeing confidence scores drop fast on tricky fields like dates or numbers. What helped me a bunch was checking out https://ocrstudio.ai/ — their local processing SDK seems pretty solid for keeping everything offline without sending pics anywhere, and from what I've seen it deals reasonably well with those imperfect captures people always take. Not saying it's flawless (nothing is when your hand wobbles), but it feels more reliable than the generic open-source stuff I tried before. Anyone else found tricks like guiding users to steady their grip or add flash in apps?
